So this isn’t exactly a quick and easy crochet blanket pattern because there’s not really any such thing as thing a ‘quick’ blanket. They all take a while, this one will just be marginally quicker than other ones because it uses long stitches and chunky yarn. And it is actually very easy but you need to get the rhythm of the pattern down first – then it’s a no-brainer.
So when I say it’s a quick and easy crochet blanket pattern it’s as quick and easy as you can get with a blanket pattern.
I don’t usually let time be a factor when I’m choosing or designing a project because I love crocheting so I don’t really care how long something takes to make because I’m doing something I love. I made a massive granny square blanket over summer that would have easily taken me 100 plus hours but who cares? It was a pleasure to make and I love the blanket because I know how much work goes into it.
I can understand the need for quick-win projects every now and then and but I’m definitely a blanket fan. I love hunkering down with a project I know is going to take a few months to complete. It’s like making a new friend.
I generally design a blanket for anyone who invites me to their wedding and this year two of my favourite people married each other in April. The wedding was very low key, which meant I didn’t get the year or so I usually get when I plan a blanket – it was more like 2 months. Another challenge with this blanket is that one half of the couple is allergic to wool so it would need to be made in a premium acrylic yarn. They also have a dog with short white hair so a blanket that could be popped in the washing machine without too much fuss was definitely a plus.
I took a punt and ordered some Paintbox Chunky for this project and I’m thrilled with this yarn. The project worked up super quickly (for a blanket) and is a great gift for a wedding that you didn’t get a massive amount of notice for.
Here’s what you need for this quick and easy crochet blanket pattern…
Yarn: Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky (Chunky weight, 100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100g; 149 yds/136m): 10 balls in slate grey (col 305 – Colour A) and 10 balls in washed teal (col 332 – Colour B)
US 10.75 (7mm) size hook
Removable stitch marker
Yarn needle with large eye
